ATTENTION you F-TYPE lead foots, XF Racers, E-TYPE GO Quicks, here is your chance to really “blow the carbon off the valves”! Tom Hinckley, JOCLA RALLY MASTER, has put together a great drive for all you driving enthusiasts. The infamous “GLENDORA MOUNTAIN ROAD.”

For those who are not familiar, this infamous road starts in Glendora community, travels along the foothills, twists, turns, dips, climbs, and flat-out straights challenge the most skilled driver. Steve McQueen would drive his XK-SS along this road on occasion just to test his driving skills. The views from the road are spectacular and the route will challenge you while having a “hell of a good time”! The canyons will resound with your exhaust note and your car will appreciate the exercise.

We will cool our jets at CHRSTAL LAKE CAMPGROUND & CAFE for an outdoor picnic where I am sure we will hear tales of nerve, bravado, and sweaty palms! So, tune-up your JAG, check your tire pressures, change your air filters, and get ready for a serious driving event.

GLENDORA HILL CLIMB EVENT INFORMATION

We will meet at Padua Park in Claremont, gather, and do our drivers briefing, from there we make a couple of quick turns, and we are onto Mount Baldy Rd. and then onto Glendora Ridge Rd., hop over onto Glendora Mountain Rd (toward Camp Bonita Rd.)

Left on East Fork and over to Hwy 39 to Crystal Lake Campground. We can park and picnic at Crystal Lake and then enjoy the drive down Azusa Canyon back to the 210 Freeway.

It does not get much better than the 19km single lane rollercoaster that is Glendora Ridge Road. The road winds across the top of a high ridge and often teeters on the knife edge. It offers a never-ending assault on your senses as you swoop down, with massive views of immense canyons, wooded mountain peaks, rugged river valleys and the coastal plains of LA.

It is also awesome fun; you descend on a pitch that’s enough to make you feel fast and strong but still allows you to pedal through the corners. It seems incredible that such a place exists just 15 or so kilometers (as the crow flies) from the urban sprawl of the Los Angeles basin.

Could Glendora Ridge Road be the world’s best ridge road?

We think so…

Looking forward to seeing you all!! Cheers, TOM HINCKLEY
