HAPPY NEW YEAR Jaguar Owners Club Members, 2019 was a wonderful year for the Club in general. The JOC Membership enjoyed another year of driving event’s, car show successes, National Championships in concours competition, a successful South West Regional Event in MORRO BAY, a dramatic increase in Rally/Driving events, and a very joyous Holiday Party honoring three very special former members. To the details:

The Club has been focused on driving events in 2019 because that’s what a lot of you requested and I frankly enjoy tearing around in my Jags. We visited many terrific venues this past year, The Mullin Museum of Pre-War French Art Deco and Streamline cars

. The event saw a 30+ members enjoying a special collection of French automotive sculpture of the Golden Age of the custom coach builders. Then there was the PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM VAULT TOUR for those who didn’t get to enjoy during the IJF Santa Barbara Festival. The Vault Tour is something special because you see cars that aren’t always on display and have historic value and exclusivity that their owners really don’t show these cars because of their value and rarity. We also enjoyed driving through the lush gardens, Mid -Century Modern Architecture, and dramatic views of the Palos Verdes Peninsula for our annual Club Summer Gathering.

MORRO BAY CAL CLUBS meet in MORRO BAY was a wonderful revival of a tradition that goes back to the early beginnings of the JOCLA. The CAL CLUBS MEET was scheduled every other year and was always located on the CENTRA COAST of CALIFORNIA. PASO ROBLES, PISMO BEACH, MORRO BAY, SAN LUIS OBISPO were the usual locations. The modern revival first happened in the THREE RIVERS area of California at the entrance to the SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK. That event was so successful we planned another one only this time on the Central Coast, MORRO BAY. 85+ Jaguar Club members from LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno and Sacramento attended and were treated to wonderful Fall weather, great seafood, long stretches of fast touring roads, BBQ to die for and great camaraderie. We are planning another event for 2022 in either PISMO BEACH or AVILA BEACH. Look for the announcement later this year.

The Club Concours participants were not daunted by the early morning rain showers and a very successful Annual Concours at the MUCKENTHALER AUTOMOBILE SHOW was a success despite the heavy dew. The same members made an appearance in San Diego and walked away with a sizable collection of FIRST and SECOND PLACE TROPHIES. In contrast, our driving members were treated to a fantastic Rally/Scenic Tour through the neighborhoods of Pasadena, Tajunga, Glendale, and Montrose and finishing with a tasty lunch in Montrose.

We celebrated the Annual Holiday Luncheon at the Shoreline Yacht Club where we toasted our Concours Winners, 8 National Champions, 3 National Driven Champions, and a bunch of second place winners too. During the event we honored three members with LIFETIME MEMBERSHIPS, Richard Darnell, John Nyquist, and Larry Graven. This honor was given posthumously and was intended to continue their historic contributions to the success of the JOCLA. Richard Darnell was a member since 1966 and served as our President and ambassador of good will and was always available to help members with their car’s issues. John Nyquist was our official trophy guy, and more importantly was the go-to guy when help was needed for any event. Larry Graven, a member since 1972, was our Treasurer for many years and is credited for getting our financial house in order, he served as president, treasurer, and all-round great guy on the BOD. His legal counsel was also much appreciated at times! This 2020 Season will start-off with a TECH SESSION on February 29 in San Pedro at BRITISH EUROPEAN SERVICE where they will be doing a MOT evaluation of your car. I suggest you look at the club Website, lajagclub.com, for a complete event listing. So, let’s all get together and enjoy the year of events and fellowship. Cheers, Mark Mayuga, President

JAGUAR CLUBS OF NORTH AMERICA, ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, LAS VEGAS, MARCH 19-22 2020

Once a year the Jaguar Club of North America Executive Board of Directors and the Regional Directors come together to review, discuss, debate, formalize, and initiate recommendations for the running of our international organization of Jaguar Clubs (USA, Canada, Mexico). This year the event will take place at HARRAH’s Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas on March 19-22. This is a working business meeting, no time to play slot machines or poker. The business meeting reviews the previous years events, challenges, problem areas, request for review of rules in the concours program, discuss membership issues, overall JCNA/JLR Budget review, and the awarding of trophies in the three JCNA Competitive events categories. Concours, Slalom, and Rally winners and runners-up are awarded their trophies either in person or shipped to them.

The event is also a review of the health of the clubs in general and representatives share their challenges, needs, and ideas to make the JCNA family of clubs more inviting to new Jaguar Owners, and to continue the traditions of JCNA sine 1958. Each club sends delegates with two votes that are cast on proposed rule changes in the competitive events or administrative procedural issues that affect the running of the organization. All JCNA members are invited to attend and observe the meeting and take advantage of the focus groups after the business meeting. This year the Seminars are on Rallying and Concours Rules Changes. HARRAH’s CASINO in located at the North End of the Las Vegas Strip. I you are interested in attending go to the JCNA Website, jcna.com, and register for the event. This year the JOCLA will be represented by Mark Mayuga JOCLA President, South West Regional Director and Charlie Hallums, JOCLA Concours Chairman and Chief Judge. If you have any ideas or issues that you want discussed at the AGM please contact either of these to gentlemen via email with your thoughts, questions, and recommendations.
