1987 Series III Jaguar XJ-6

Superlatives are of course subjective, but in my estimation and in that of many others who’ve seen it, this beautiful 1987 Series III Jaguar XJ-6 truly looks like a very well kept one year old car. It’s a time capsule. The burl wood trim can only be described as 100% flawless. Absolutely zero cracks or scratches an any wood surface. There is absolutely no evidence of wear or damage on any of the leather upholstery  surfaces. The carpeting has been covered for the entire life of the car and is as new. The headliner was replaced and it’s perfect. All interior chrome is perfect. All the seals and weatherstripping are soft and pliable and they are in mint condition. There is no detectable sun damage on any surface because the car has always been covered and garaged when not on the road. The entire exterior presents as show quality. The paint and chrome is simply beautiful and there are no dings or scratches. The wheels are new, made in Switzerland, very high quality duplicates of the original Kent style with new genuine Jaguar hubcaps. All the lug nuts are new. The tires are the correct size B. F. Goodrich radials and they are new. The wheels and tires have been driven only approximately 25 miles (twenty-five) at this writing. The original wheels, hubcaps and lug nuts are in very good to excellent condition and will go with the car.

It was delivered on May 30, 1987 at Conway Jaguar in San Diego CA to the woman listed on the first service record dated June 3, 1987. She, or her husband, is listed on each of 53 subsequent service records and parts receipts showing the then current date and/or mileage through August 4, 2022. The records are extensive and detailed in a 3 ring binder and they show that it has been a southern California car since new. There is no evidence of rust anywhere that I can see. Using the government CPI Inflation Calculator, the records also show, when adjusted for inflation, that over $70,000 (seventy thousand dollars) was spent to keep it in superb condition. For example, at 159,847 miles the cylinder head was overhauled with all new exhaust valves, a new water pump and all drive belts, front crankshaft seal and stub axle seals. The original owner explained that it was driven over many years to commute from her home in Santa Maria CA to Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles where she was employed, thus accounting for the approximate 195,000 miles. I bought the car from her on August 8, 2022. I’ve spent about $4,000 (four thousand dollars) since I’ve owned it on the wheels and tires, a rebuilt steering rack, new bushings and tie rod ends and a new cold start injector. There are a few other small items that have been replaced as well. There are some NOS parts including two power mirrors that go with the car and a high quality custom fit cover. I’ve also ordered a black and yellow California legacy plate that reads 1987 JAG. I have receipts for everything I’ve done while it’s been in my care. The complete original owner’s manuals with dealer service notations are included as well as the radio code card. There are 3 sets of original keys and even the manual sunroof crank.  The only thing I’m aware of in terms of required maintenance is an A/C recharge. I live near the coast and the weather here is such that it’s unnecessary. I’m asking $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) or a near offer. I may consider an interesting trade.
